Research Infrastructure Services Advancing Frontier Knowledge in Sun-Earth Interactions (RAISEARTH)
RAISEARTH (Research Infrastructure Services Advancing Frontier Knowledge in Sun–Earth Interactions) officially started on 1 October 2026. Funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe, the four-year project brings together 21 partners from 14 European countries and is coordinated by the National Observatory of Athens.
RAISEARTH integrates Europe’s observing facilities, data services, prediction models and AI/ML tools across the full Sun–Earth chain, from solar activity and the heliosphere to the magnetosphere, ionosphere and thermosphere. Its services are open to researchers and innovators from academia and industry:
- Trans-National Access (TNA): hands-on research at 14 nodes across Europe, including incoherent scatter radars, radio telescopes, ionosondes, GNSS networks, magnetometers and Doppler sounders. Access is free of charge, and travel and subsistence costs are covered. The calls are open, with proposals reviewed as they are submitted, and renewed every four months. The first call is expected in January 2027.
- Virtual Access: FAIR datasets, event catalogues and prediction-model outputs.
- AI-enabled e-Science Centre: tools for data curation, automated event detection and machine-learning forecasting.
- Training and innovation: annual Training Schools, workshops and hackathons, with a focus on early-career researchers.
